Growing up in a third world country, I have seen the anguish and suffering in people who are unfortunate and not educated in self health care. I want to pursue the practice of internal medicine in order to educate my patients. I am motivated in providing my patients with the up most encouragement in choosing a healthy life style. My inspiration comes from my mother and her love for biological sciences. Her careful tactics in applying her knowledge and passion for biosciences with people in need has always been an inspiration for me. Seeing people suffer in country, I had become curious of the human body, its anatomy, its reaction to surrounding and emotion. After taking my matriculation examination, I was driven towards his decision of choosing between the pre-medical or pre- engineering fields. Naturally, I choose the pre-medicalfield and flew to a foreign land to proceed with Medical School.I have always understood myself to be a very diverse individual what better way to apply my interests of the sciences other than internal medicine, where I can have an opportunity to improve medicine in undifferentiated processes. The most interesting part of internal medicine is the interaction with the patient. To many individuals, entering the medical facility to discuss the procedures of preventing, diagnosing or treating a terminal disease is by far one of the most difficult confrontations. Even, the passages way into a medical facility is a nerve reckoning ordeal when having to deal with severe sickness. However, I believe the internal medicine is the pathway of understanding and providing a comfort level to the patient. During my time in medical school I felt empowered when dealing with patients requiring my assistance during vital times. I never imagined that my words, my efforts, can bring so much comfort to an individual lying on a hospital bed searching for his last breath. I realized that my career was not merely to determine the reason these people arrived at the hospital, but to in fact determine as to who these people were. Over the years, I have come realize that my curiosity and patience in learning about each person's background helps me to better treat each individual. After graduating from medical school in Ukraine, I had the opportunity to serve as the House Officer and a Medical Officer in my home country, Pakistan. My years of experience in managing an outpatient clinic, antenatal and post-natal care, deliveries, assisting with CABGs, PCI, valvular surgeries, and patient admissions has matured me as a physician as I have learned to apply my education in a clinical setting. I believe that I have the skill set and the drive that will help me become a caring and competent physician. My involvement in activities both inside and outside of medicine has made me well-rounded and enables me to work effectively with different types of people in various situations.Completing my residency in Internal Medicine in the United States gives me the opportunity to learn and practice vital skills that we lack in my home country. At the same time I can bring to the program the clinical knowledge that I have acquired during medical school in Ukraine, and my residency in Pakistan. I am determined to take full advantage of a residency program in internal medicine and to use the knowledge that I acquire to humbly help and heal my patients.
My experiences have made me determined, resilient, and have given me mental strength and compassion to succeed as a valuable asset to a medical team. I want to be a resource for my patients and a source of continual medical care. The strong healthcare system, opportunities for research, and advanced technology of the United States will open doors for my dreams in becoming reality and giving me the opportunity to give back to the people.
